Talkshow Thursday: Welcome Caryl McAdoo!

Inspiration for “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”
By Caryl McAdoo

Thank you, Linda for inviting me to visit!

I’ve always loved God’s music, and several years ago, the idea struck me that writing stories based on favorite old hymns would make a great multi-author collection. Was it me or God’s Spirit prompting me? The idea kept coming back again and again until I organized it, so I believe Holy Spirit initiated it.

I chose to call it “Hymns to Stir the Heartstrings Collection.”

To open it to more authors—and considering I was writing a personal End Times series I intended to use my hymn titles for—I left the genre open. All are Christian based (no cursing or on-scene intimacies), but they could be historical, contemporary, or futuristic, romance, thriller, or mystery!

My first book for that collection debuted in February 2026, TRUST & OBEY. The second book
launches next month, GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS. These titles are also a part of my “Days of Trouble” End Times series wherein each book represents one year of the coming seven-year tribulation.

These main characters are descendants of my Texas Romance Family Saga series. Readers have followed the Nightingale family beginning with little Charley, born in captivity as the blonde, blue-eyed son of Commanche chief, Bold Eagle (not his blood father, obviously) and Sassy back in 1852. He’s introduced in HEARTS STOLEN, book two. Charley stole my heart when he brought his mother a sparrow and ordered her to cook it when only four.

His son with Lacey (readers were there for her birth in that same book two), Nathaniel Nightingale, grows up to be a tent preacher with a great healing ministry. He married Evelyn Eversole who readers got to know in Book Eight, COVERING LOVE. She’s one of my favorite heroines! He and Evelyn had a son, Broderick Eversole Nightingale, known as Buddy.

So he has a gift of singing and often heard the angels’ harmonies. He identified with King David, his favorite Bible character who besides being a psalmist, loved women as much as Buddy did . . . and the ladies loved him as well. In CHIEF OF SINNERS, the tenth and final book of the series, while married to Abigail, Buddy fathers a son, John David Nightingale, with his first true love, Sandra Harris.

Oh, what a tangled web, right?

This family has been sorely tempted and tried over more than a century from 1840s through 1970s. Many Nightingales sinned and fell far short of God’s glory—as have we all—but they repent and are redeemed.

John David—he goes by David—earned his own short series, “The Revivalist Trilogy” with his wife, Hannah. They are the main couple followed through the “Days of Trouble” End Times series.

I know these awesome people like they’re real. They so love God, yet, I understand how they got into their troubles through bad choices. Don’t we all make them? Readers count my characters as family or beloved neighbors! 😊 You just get so involved with them and know them so well, you keep wanting to know more of their lives, as I did—and still do.

So, GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS finds us in Year Three of the tribulation’s prophesied seven, and God’s sweet mercies still flowing new every morning. His everlasting faithfulness abounds toward David as His servant obediently follows Father’s direction.

Times are getting hard as the spirit of the anti-Christ’s is loosed, and evil runs rampant in the world.

The story encourages readers to hang on and trust God, because no matter how hard things get. He is faithful. He never leaves His children or forsakes them. Miracles abound as God is glorified with around the clock prayer—a vision that includes a wheel within a wheel from Ezekiel that David had seen many years before in a vision.

We, His children, will not suffer His wrath, but that wrath will be all around us as He takes care of our enemies. The fields are ripe for the harvest, and the worst of times for many become the best of times for those who trust God and are obedient to His Word. Jesus said we—His own—the Church—would do the things He did and greater, right? But that hasn’t happened yet!

However, so many Christians are disillusioned in our story because they find themselves still here when they expected to be raptured before those terrible days such as the world has never seen or will see again. They believed false teachers in the pulpits, and their faith is shaken to its core.

On Tour: Fear, Faith & Freedom

About the Book

Book: Fear, Faith, & Freedom, Breaking Through Life’s Challenges with God’s Help

Author: Jenn Dafoe-Turner

Genre: Christian Memoir/Devotional

Release Date: November 25, 2025

Fear, Faith, and Freedom: Breaking Through Life’s Battles with God’s Help is a raw, redemptive journey from despair to deliverance. With deep vulnerability and spiritual clarity, author Jenn Dafoe-Turner invites readers into her story of pain, trauma, addiction, and ultimately, transformation through the power of Jesus Christ. Blending compelling personal narrative with creative retellings of Scripture, this book offers readers more than a testimony—it offers a path toward healing and wholeness.

Each chapter explores a different “battle” of life—fear, addiction, shame, identity, self-sabotage, church hurt, and more—and how God’s truth can bring lasting victory. Through heartfelt storytelling, biblical wisdom, and practical reflection, Jenn shows that freedom isn’t found in fixing ourselves but in surrendering completely to the One who sets captives free.

Structured as a spiritual memoir with devotional elements, each chapter concludes with a “gentle challenge,” reflection questions, a Scripture memory verse, and a heartfelt prayer. This format makes the book ideal for personal study, recovery groups, or women’s ministry settings.

Whether you are struggling with your own dark night of the soul or mentoring others through theirs, Fear, Faith, and Freedom will remind you that no battle is too great for God. His love meets us in the most broken places—and leads us, one step at a time, into a life marked by courage, hope, and the certainty of His grace.

Fear, Faith & Freedom: Why This Book Had to Be Written

There are moments in life when fear speaks louder than faith.

Moments when freedom feels distant.

Moments when we wonder if God is still working—even here.

Fear, Faith & Freedom: Breaking Through Life’s Challenges with God’s Help was written for those moments.

I didn’t write this book because I had life figured out. I wrote it because I didn’t.

Why I Wrote Fear, Faith & Freedom

This book was born out of lived experience—through seasons of uncertainty, surrender, recovery, and deep wrestling with God. I have walked through fear that felt paralyzing, faith that felt fragile, and freedom that came one step at a time.

For years, I carried the quiet question many believers hold close to their hearts: Why, God? Why this path? Why this pain? Why me?

What I discovered is that God often does His deepest work not in the absence of fear, but in the midst of it. Faith isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about learning to trust the One who does. And freedom isn’t a single moment; it’s a journey of daily choosing truth over lies.

This book is my offering to those who feel stuck between where they are and where they long to be.

What’s Inside the Book

Fear, Faith & Freedom is part devotional, part reflection, and part invitation.

Inside these pages, readers will find:

  • Honest stories of struggle, surrender, and spiritual growth
  • Biblical insights that meet real-life challenges head-on
  • Reflective prompts that invite readers to pause, pray, and engage personally
  • Encouragement without platitudes—because healing doesn’t happen through clichés
  • A clear message of hope: God is present, purposeful, and faithful, even in the mess

Rather than offering quick fixes, this book walks alongside readers, reminding them that God’s help is not distant or delayed—He is near, attentive, and deeply compassionate.

What Readers Can Expect

This is not a book that talks at you.

It’s a book that sits with you.

Readers can expect to feel:

  • Seen in their questions
  • Understood in their struggles
  • Gently challenged to release fear
  • Invited to trust God more deeply
  • Encouraged to step into lasting freedom

Whether someone is navigating grief, addiction recovery, burnout, faith fatigue, or simply longing for deeper peace, this book offers space to breathe and room for God to work.

Who This Book Is For

Fear, Faith & Freedom is for:

  • The believer who feels weary but the seeker who wants faith that feels real, not rehearsed
  • The reader who needs reassurance that God still shows up
  • Anyone ready to move forward—even if they’re taking small steps

If you’ve ever wondered whether God can bring beauty out of broken places, this book is for you.

Because fear does not get the final word.

Faith is still alive.

And freedom—true, God-given freedom—is possible.

Author Interview

What is your favorite thing about being a writer? — My favorite thing about writing is that the possibilities are endless of what I can write about. Everyday there are lessons to be seen and learned. God shows up in the mundane moments of life and turns them around.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books? — My English teachers were right, if I had followed the writing process my writing would be that much stronger.

Can you share a real-life event that inspired your writing?
— I wrote a short devotional for church and a lady said to me, “I wonder what God will do with that talent?” I won’t forget anytime soon because it was a confirmation of something I was too scared to dream.

What is one thing you wish you could do? — I have always wanted to be able to sing but I am not gifted in this area. As a matter of fact, the only note I can carry are in hymnals…lol I sure do admire those who can sing. One of my favorite musicians is one of my friends and when she plays when she thinks no one is listening, is breathtaking. She makes her instrument sing.

What was your favorite childhood book and why?
This is a hard question. I have so many. In the Heat of the Night. The Sweet Valley High Series. Ramona the Pest. I fell in love with reading when I was learning to read. I was an advanced reader. It was the first time I remember feeling proud of myself at school. I devoured books and was soon reading small chapter books. Books offered an escape from the daily reality to another world. Worlds where I could put myself in the story and run away.

Interview with Erma

What is your favorite thing about being a writer? My favorite things about being a writer are hearing the Lord’s voice in my head and the creative process. If I get stuck on a word or thought, I pray and ask the Lord to direct what I should say/what comes next. It may take a minute or days, but He has the perfect answer to my dilemma.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books? One of the most surprising things I’ve learned in creating my books is the use of humor. I tend to be lighthearted. Most books I read are not. So I’ve had to learn to incorporate funny situations or thoughts in my writing.

Can you share a real-life event that inspired your writing? A real-life event inspired my first novel, “Journaled With Love.” We had just finished watching the movie “You’ve Got Mail,” a Christmas staple in our home. I wondered why no one had ever written a book like it. From that thought, I plowed upstairs and began penning “Journaled With Love.” Thirty days of laughter and calamities later, the novel went to my editor.

What questions do you ask yourself when preparing to write a new book? While preparing to write a new book, I write what the characters have already talked to me about. I let them tell me who they are, what’s going on in their lives, and the goals they have/what they want to accomplish. I feel like I’m a passenger watching, listening, experiencing the story they’re telling.

What was the best money you spent as a writer? Tough question! Writing groups, conferences, editors, and craft books means opening your wallet. Worthwhile? YES! If time is money, I spend a lot of it. And I enjoy way more than I spend. Once you self-pub a book, be prepared to open your wallet wider to purchase ads/promote your book.

How are your characters like you? Different?  My characters in “Journaled With Love” are like me in that they prayed and laughed a lot. Their circumstances and ways of handling difficulties are different than mine. In “SADIE’S GIFT: The Christmas Cabin,” the characters reminded me of the time I chose to trust God with my life. They had a different way of seeking to walk with Him than me, but their stubbornness might be the same.

How do you come up with story lines/book topic? I came up with the story for “Journaled With Love” from watching You’ve Got Mail. “SADIE’S GIFT: The Christmas Cabin” came from praying about sharing the Christmas gift God gave us in a romantic novel.

Why do you write in your particular genre?
I accidentally became a romance writer! The story that’s been on my heart for years is actually a suspense novel. But the more I read romance novels, the more I wanted to know what made each couple “click.” Why were they hopeless, what would solve their conflict, how would they end up together? Each book was a puzzle I wanted to finish before the final page. I love romance!

What is one thing you wish you could do?
I have two things I wish I could do, one silly and one serious. I’ve always wanted to fly. I have vivid dreams about leaping in the air, staying airborne, and seeing the world from that perspective. But, seriously, I long for a closer relationship with the Lord. His love and compassion, His ability to give or withhold an answer – His character. I want to be more like Him.

What was your favorite childhood book and why? I have two favorite childhood books. The Bible is the first. At a young age, I’d grab a flashlight, hop under the covers, and read instead of going to sleep. I didn’t understand much but I knew God loved me. Little Women is my second favorite childhood book. I loved the depth Louisa May Alcott gave to her characters. Because I grew up on the east coast, the setting appealed to me also.

Christmas Round-Robin Scavenger Hunt

Christmas Round-Robin Scavenger Hunt

Merry Christmas! And welcome to the Christmas Round-Robin during which you have the chance to win one of three generous prizes! First prize is a $300 Amazon gift card, second place is a $150 Amazon gift card, and third prize is a $75 gift card. How cool is that?!

In each participating author’s blog post, you’ll find a questions that can be answered by checking out the book blurb or free Amazon preview of his/her book. The hunt stars here:  (Please note that you must answer the questions for EVERY author in the round-robin to be considered to win THIS PRIZE. At the end of my post is the link to the next blog, who will provide a link to the next blog…and so on…to the very end. When you're finished fill out your answers on this form.

My novella, A Doctor in the House, is part of The Hope of Christmas collection that includes stories by two other authors. I’m a history geek, and I write about ordinary people who did extraordinary things in days gone by.

World War II was a particularly life-changing event for everyone: those who served in the armed forces as well as those who “held down the fort” on the home front.

In a society that dictated how (secretaries, nurses, teachers) and when (as long as they were single) women could work, the opportunity to hold positions only previously available to men was exciting and scary. Facing prejudice, ridicule, and disdain, these ladies worked extra hard to prove their capabilities to the detractors. It was only after working side-by-side with female employees and witnessing their performance, did men grudgingly agree theses gals had what it took to get the job done.

Margaret Craighill
The military was slow to create women’s auxiliary forces, but once the chance arose, more than 350,000 enlisted. However, it wasn’t until April 1943 that President Roosevelt signed the Sparkman-Johnson Act allowing female physicians to serve in the Army and Navy Corps. A month later, Dr. Margaret Craighill became the first woman doctor to serve in the Army inspiring my character Emma O’Sullivan in A Doctor in the House.

Emma is assigned to England to set up a convalescent hospital, and she leaves behind everything that is familiar. When the handsome widower of the requisitioned property claims she’s incompetent and tries to get her transferred, she must prove to her superiors she’s more than capable. But she’s soon drawn to the good-looking, grieving owner. Will she have to choose between her job and her heart?

Let’s continue this scavenger hunt! Go to the book on Amazon at this link and check out the book blurb. What is the name of the requisitioned country home in Britain where Emma is stationed?  When you have the answer, fill out this form and head over to the next blog!

Thank you so much for visiting! The next author on the tour is Valerie Comer, who will share with you about her Christmas book The Cowboy's Christmas Reunion. You can find it at this link. Remember the round-robin ends on December 16th at 11:59 PM EST.
